Of Sealing Wax And String... PDF Print E-mail

When I open the case of a PC that's in for repair I'm frequently amazed by the amount of dirt that has accumulated inside the case. However nothing could have prepared me for what I found inside a desktop I was recently asked to service...

The cables and power supply unit were all strapped up with masking tape. Not even electrical insulating tape just good old DIY masking tape. So, for all you budding home PC builders out there, here's some pictures of how not to strap up your cables:

Power supply unit taped up with masking tape.

Spare power cables taped up with masking tape

Ribbon cables strapped and taped to motherboard with masking tape

This PC is about 18 months old and is completely dead after developing a fault in the system clock on the motherboard. Now I'm not suggesting that the masking tape was responsible for the eventual failure; but I have to ask you what sort of quality of equipment would you expect to purchase from someone who performs work like this?
