Some time ago, in the dim and distant past, Microsoft came up with the great idea of creating an update service so that as bugs were discovered in their products they could be automatically downloaded and installed on the general public's computers. However recent experiences have led me to question whether this is really such a good idea.

A salutary tale emerged from Clonakilty this week on the vagaries of our power supply in West Cork. At about 10:00 on Monday morning there was a power cut in Clonakilty town centre. To protect against outages you need to: - Make sure your equipment is protected from the power surges that result when the power comes back on.

The third service pack for Microsoft Windows XP is finally available for download and install. However early observations have indicated that it may not be without it's problems. Just as the Vista Service Pack 1 was withdrawn for a while last week to combat some problems with specific applications it may well be that XP SP3 will see a second iteration before all the issues are ironed out.
If you want to go ahead with the SP3 (or Vista SP1) install and you don't want to leave things to chance then give us a call on 023 88 39496 or email services@ctswestcork.com for information on our upgrade services. If you should install XP SP3 and then find that IE7 no longer works then please give us a call on how to fix the issues. |

Despite it being 12 months since Microsoft released Windows Vista and availability for XP ending in June this year (2008) it's somewhat surprising that a service pack should appear for Windows XP. I guess Microsoft realizes that there's going to be a very significant number of computers running XP for some time and there's just time to squeeze in one more service pack. The service pack includes |
